Special units block streets in Nardaran

Any motor traffic is banned in the Azerbaijani village of Nardaran; and power agents ask local residents not to leave their houses. The village is densely cordoned off by power agents.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today Nardaran villagers said about deployment of armoured vehicles in the village. On November 26, in Nardaran, believers had clashes with policemen, as a result of which two policemen and five local residents were killed. The riots were triggered by a police's special operation, during which they detained 14 people, including the theologian Talekh Bagirzade.

Villagers launched a protest action, which was stopped on November 29 at the request of local elders. On November 27, authorities cut off electricity supply to the village, then, the telephone exchange stopped functioning. On November 30 the situation in Nardaran remained tense.

After the completion of the November 26 special operation in Nardaran, "certain destructive elements conducted unauthorized meetings, and called residents to mass disobedience and actions against the constitutional order," says the statement of law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan.

It is also reported that today 08:00 a.m. local time, a special operation began in Nardaran.
