Cordon around village of Bachi-Yurt lifted
The cordon around the village of Bachi-Yurt has been lifted, and there are no restrictions on the movement throughout the village, local residents report. Officials from the Kurchaloi ROVD (District Interior Division) of Chechnya refused to comment on the situation.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to the local residents, on November 28, the village of Bachi-Yurt was cordoned off by law enforcers and blocked in connection with the fact that a portrait of one of the family members of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov was burned in the village. According to local residents, the law enforcers detained in large numbers the persons suspected of the arson.
A leader of one of the Chechen NGOs notes that the arson of portraits "can be treated as a kind of protest." He has also emphasized that some people are dissatisfied with "a large number of portraits of the Kadyrov family on the streets."
According to Khava, a staff member of a local NGO, the blocking of the village may be connected with the fact that the incident occurred in the village neighbouring to Khosi-Yurt.
