Detained Nardaran residents arrested for four months

In Azerbaijan, 14 local residents detained in Nardaran face the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of arrest for the period of four months. This was reported on November 28 by the website "Trend" with reference to a source from the law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan.

The detainees are charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The maximum penalty stipulated by the articles is life imprisonment.

The investigation is being carried out by the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office, the website "1news.az" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 26, residents of Nardaran gathered for a spontaneous rally at the centre of the village after the clashes. The residents of Nardaran started to build barricades, and the police arranged reinforced checkpoints at all entrances to the village. On November 26, journalists of two TV Channels were attacked when they were highlighting the events in Nardaran. Dunja Mijatovic, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, demanded from the Azerbaijani authorities to investigate the incident. In the evening of November 27, electricity supply was cut off in the entire village.
