Resident of Chechnya charged with attempt on policemen
The Court of the Urus-Martan District has received a criminal case against Umar Akhtaev, a 25-year-old local resident. According to the suspect, he planned to destroy in an uninhabited area a homemade grenade, an explosion of which affected policemen.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 26, in the village of Martan-Chu in the Urus-Martan District, being in a service car, three staff members of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) stopped Umar Akhtaev to check his ID, since his behaviour seemed suspicious to them. However, according to the policemen, he threw an improvised explosive device (IED) into the police car and tried to escape; however, he was detained. As a result of the explosion of the IED, two policemen were injured.
According to an official of the Chechen Prosecutor's Office, in the course of the investigation, Umar Akhtaev confessed that he was carrying a homemade grenade to destroy it in the vicinity of the village of Martan-Chu.
The prosecutor has noted that Umar Akhtaev explained his actions by saying he was afraid that the policemen could find his grenade.
25-year-old Umar Akhtaev is charged under three Articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including Article 317 (attempt on life of a law enforcer), Part 2 of Article 167 (intentional destruction or damage of other people's property committed from hooligan prompting), and Part 1 of Article 222.1 (illegal purchase and possession of explosive substances or explosive devices).
