Three natives of Northern Caucasus included in sanctions list of US Treasury

Today, the press service of the US Treasury has announced the inclusion of three Russian citizens in the anti-terror sanctions list. According to the US Treasury, they are Islam Atabiev, well-known under the nickname "al-Shishani", "Abu Jihad" Akhmed Chataev ("One-Armed Akhmed"), and Zaurbek Guchaev ("Abdul Aziz"), the "TASS" reports.

In 2003, ethnic Chechen Akhmed Chataev was put by the Russian law enforcement bodies on the wanted list. According to the law enforcers, he was an agent of militant leader Dokku Umarov in Western Europe.

Islam Atabiev was born in 1983 in Stavropol, and, according to the US Treasury, is the deputy of Tarkhan Batirashvili (Abu Omar al-Shishani), a field commander of the Islamic State" (IS). Zaurbek Guchaev was born in 1975 in Kabardino-Balkaria. According to the US Treasury, he is a foreign agent of the "Imarat Kavkaz", and he is responsible for the coordination and commands with regard to the actions of the grouping in Syria, the RIA "Novosti" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 29, the US Treasury and the US State Department announced the introduction of sanctions against the Caucasian unit of the "Islamic State" (IS, earlier ISIL), which is recognized as a terrorist organization. The sanctions list also included Russian citizens fighting in the territory of Syria, including Tarkhan Gaziev, Shamil Izmailov, and Rustam Asilderov, a suspected leader of the IS in Northern Caucasus.
