On October 1, in Republic Square in Yerevan, people lit candles to pay tribute to the memory of 60 victims of domestic violence, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. The participants of the actions have demanded from the authorities to adopt a law to prevent domestic violence.
The event was organized by the "Coalition to Stop Violence against Women".
About 50 people came to pay tribute to the victims of domestic violence. In Republic Square, the participants of the actions laid out to the ground six dozen pairs of women's shoes with the names and photographs of the women, who fell victim to domestic violence.
The activists lit more than two dozen candles. Passers-by also joined the action.
According to Sona Ovakimyan, a member of the public organization "Society without Violence", the action was aimed to draw attention to the problem existing in Armenia.
