Two natives of Northern Caucasus arrested on suspicion of involvement in Syrian conflict

In Moscow, two natives of Northern Caucasus are suspected of involvement in the combat actions in Syria. Both suspects are taken in custody by the court's decision.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that various sources, including the Russian FSB, have confirmed the information that in Syria, militants from Russia are fighting on the side of the "Islamic State" (IS, earlier ISIL). The organization is recognized as a terrorist, and its activities are prohibited in Russia, the USA, Turkey, and other countries. According to experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", the IS positions itself as a promising project for young radical Muslims.

Kerim Khatiev and Akhmed Amirkhanov, two natives of Northern Caucasus, were detained on suspicion of involvement in the Syrian conflict on the side of the militants, the "Interfax" reports with reference to a source.

The criminal case was instituted under Part 2 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for involvement in an armed formation on the territory of a foreign state. The Article stipulates the punishment of up to 10 years of imprisonment.

At the request of investigators, the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow has pronounced against the both suspects the pre-trial restriction measure in the form of a two-month detention, the "RBC" reports with reference to the press service of the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow.
