In Makhachkala, voters report weak informational support of elections
On September 13, on the united voting day in Russia, a number of regions of Southern Russia and Northern Caucasus held elections of various levels, including the municipal campaign in Dagestan. Residents of Makhachkala elect deputies of three regional assemblies of the city. Observers noted low voter turnout. Besides, according to local residents, Makhachkala had very passive election campaign.
"I have come to fulfil my civic duty, however, I was not even aware of the elections until the last moment", says voter Djamilya Rustamova."Some time ago I occasionally noticed a poster with a call to come to the elections. And now, I found a free moment and came here. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to get acquainted with the programmes of all the candidates."
Only small number of the voters interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent said that they made their choice after having studied the programmes of the parties.
Many interviewed voters expect from the elections the changes for the better. "I want my vote to play a significant role. Recently, they began to restore order in the city, and it became much better. However, I want even better changers," says voter Nariman Gafurov.
