New human rights centre in KBR ready to cooperate with power agents

The objectives of the regional human rights centre of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) will include not only protection of human rights, but also counteraction to the spread of religious extremism, said Valery Khatazhukov, the head of the centre. In this regard, the centre intends to cooperate with the republic's power structures.

In fact, the scope of work of the new organization will not differ from that of the branch of the movement "For Human Rights", said Khatazhukov.

"We'll continue monitoring the human rights situation and make public any facts related to violations thereof on the website, which we delivered to the new organization, and by means of other friendly informational resources," he said.

The centre sees its other key task in combating the spread of religious extremism. Khatazhukov has stressed that his centre is ready to cooperate with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the KBR, the republic's Ministry for the Prevention of Extremism and other official bodies.

The new centre will also engage in human rights violations in the social sphere; for example, it will contribute to the solution of republic's land problems, Mr Khatazhukov has continued.

To date, the main problem of the new centre is to seek funding, because it will be able to apply for a Russian grant only in a year.
