Deputy Imam killed in Stavropol to be buried in his native village
Zamirbek Makhmutov, a 32-year-old Deputy Imam of the village of Irgakly, who has been shot dead today by unidentified attackers, will be buried in the evening at the family cemetery in the Neftekumsk District of the Stavropol Territory. This was reported by a relative of the killed Deputy Imam.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the body of the religious leader was found on the road to the mosque, where he was going for a morning prayer. Relatives of Zamirbek Makhmutov associate the crime with his professional activities.
According to mosque-goers of the village of Irgakly, Zamirbek Makhmutov enjoyed great respect in the local Muslim community.
Abdul Alim, one of the mosque-goers, has noted that is the sixth case of the murders of Nogai activists and religious leaders in recent years.
Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported on the murders of Imams in the Neftekumsk District. The most notorious of those murders was committed on February 13, 2012, in Pyatigorsk, where a car bombing killed Kurman Ismailov, a well-known Islamic religious leader, the Deputy Mufti of the Stavropol Territory. The investigators consider revenge and extremist activities as probable motives of the murder.
