Union of Adyg Public Associations established to influence ICA
The establishment of the single Union of Circassian (Adyg) Public Associations (UCPA) of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) is not aimed to consolidate the Circassian movement in the region, said the experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot". In their opinion, the Union has been set up by the authorities in order to have influence on the International Circassian Association (ICA).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the UCPA, created on July 31, consists of four organizations of the KChR; the Union has declared its readiness to cooperate with the authorities.
The birth of the UCPA "was promoted by republic's authorities," believes Timur Zhuzhuev, the leader of the youth branch of the "Adyghe Khase" of the KChR.
"The aim is to show to the centre that Circassian organizations are under control; and there are no problems with Circassians there," Timur Zhuzhuev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to his version, the Union "has no prospects of survival."
Its creation is linked exclusively with the suspension of the membership in the ICA of Mukhamed Cherkesov, the Chairman of "Adyghe Khase" of the KChR, believes Aslan Beshto, the Chairman of the public organization "Kabardian Congress".
"Now, with the support of state agencies, instead of the independent and incorruptible Cherkesov, they try to introduce manually controlled figures into the once influential ICA," Aslan Beshto told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
