Activists of group "In Defence of Volodya Avetisyan" go on sit-in strike

A sit-in strike in support of Colonel Volodya Avetisyan is held in Freedom Square of Yerevan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Volodya Avetisyan, an active participant of protests held by Karabakh War veterans, was detained on September 20, 2013. On July 17, 2014, a court in Armenia found him guilty of fraud and sentenced to six years in prison and a fine. His application about the conditional early relief (CER) was denied.

The protesters demand to release Volodya Avetisyan, the participants of the "Million Mask March" and the Yke Kuregyan.

As noted by Gagik Sarukhanyan, the director of the Fund "Law and Assistance" and a veteran of the Karabakh War, in the course of the action, they will "graft a new strategy under which the struggle will continue." According to his story, the initiative group "begins a new stage of struggle by continuing raising the social problems, which were voiced out by Avetisyan."
