MCC sentences Ilya Goryachev to life imprisonment
The Moscow City Court (MCC) found Ilya Goryachev guilty of creating the "Combat Organization of Russian Nationalists" (known as BORN) and organizing five murders. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Goryachev was detained in Serbia and extradited to Russia on November 8, 2013. On July 14, the jury recognized Goryachev guilty on all indictment points and deserving no leniency. On July 15, the state prosecution demanded life imprisonment for Goryachev.
According to investigators, several murders were committed under command of Goryachev, including the killings of the lawyer Stanislav Markelov, and antifascists Ilya Djaparidze and Fyodor Filatov.
According to the verdict, Goryachev "is guilty of organizing an extremist community BORN, created with the aim of committing crimes, based on the ideological, nationalistic and other hatred and hostility, as well as of organizing murders, committed by members of BORN."
