CC's resolution on priority of Russia's Constitution over ECtHR's decisions is political
The decision adopted by the Russian Constitutional Court (CC) on the priority of the Russian Constitution over the international law is of political character, though it does not mean that Russia will evade paying all the compensations awarded by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), said the lawyers, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".
Let us remind you that on July 14 the Russia's CC confirmed, at the request of MPs of the State Duma, the absolute priority of the Russian Constitution over the decisions of the ECtHR.
"No doubt, the CC's decision is aimed at the future and, most likely. may be treated as Russia's official position in the story of execution of the ECtHR's decision in the so-called 'Yukos case'," Grigor Avetisyan, a lawyer, who works with the non-governmental organization "Legal Assistance-Astrea", has commented on the CC's decision.
According to his version, the CC's decision is a sort of a political message.
Speaking about the implementation of ECtHR's decisions, the lawyer has noted that the compensation amounts awarded by the ECtHR to its applicants are regularly paid out by the Russian government. However, the authorities still fail to identify perpetrators of human rights violations, find missing persons or places of their burial.
