KBR's branch of movement "For Human Rights" announces self-liquidation

Members of the public Human Rights Centre (HRC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) decided to close their organization because of the "refusal of the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to remove the all-Russian movement 'For Human Rights' from the register of foreign agents."

According to the TASS, which referred to Lev Ponomaryov, the leader of the movement, "the regional branch in the KBR was found to be a foreign agent.

The refusal of the MoJ to exclude the movement "For Human Rights" from the registry of foreign agents was explained by the fact that over the past year the KBR's branch of the movement received funding from the NED Fund, says the official website of the HRC.

Activists have stressed that their HRC is a separate legal entity, not involved in political activities. However, on July 3 with the organization cancelled the financing contract with the NED before term.

In this regard, the HRC, which is a regional branch of the All-Russian Movement "For Human Rights", "decided to terminate the organization."

Activists are not going to give up their human rights activities, but it is not yet known in what form they will do it.
