New Acting Mayor of Makhachkala represents Gamidov's retinue

Musa Musaev, who was appointed to the post of Acting Mayor of Makhachkala, represents the interests of the "Mekegin" clan, which includes also the head of the republic's government Abdusamad Gamidov. This was stated by the journalists interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

On June 25, the head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov said that Suleimanov had lost the trust of the republic's leadership and should leave the post of Acting Mayor of Makhachkala. On July 9, Suleimanov resigned; and for 24 hours the city was headed by Abusupyan Gasanov, the first deputy head of the city administration, but on July 10 Musa Musaev, who was the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing and Municipal Services, was presented as Acting Mayor of Makhachkala.

In the past, Musaev was not a prominent figure in the political circles of the republic, said Ramazan Radjabov, an observer of the newspaper "Novoye Delo". According to his version, in the administration of Makhachkala, Musaev will represent the interests of the so-called "Mekegin" clan.

Musaev has all chances to stay in the post of the Mayor for a long time, said Magomed Abdurashidov, a junior researcher at the Division for Sociology of the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography of the Dagestani Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). However, the new Acting Mayor faces a difficult task – to show himself in a short time remaining till the elections. First of all, Musaev needs to eliminate those shortcomings in the work, for which his predecessor was criticized, said the expert.

Magomed Magomedov, a journalist of the newspaper "Chernovik", has added that when being the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing and Municipal Services, Musaev dealt with architectural issues of the city.
