In total, 72 persons were detained near Israeli Embassy in Baku
Today in Baku, a group of believers has attempted to hold an anti-Israeli protest, by dating it to the so-called "Quds Day". Police stopped the action and detained some of its participants.
In the Arabic language "Quds" means "sanctuary" (or another name of Jerusalem). The initiative to protect Jerusalem comes from the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which seeks to unite Muslims under the banner of defending the Islamic relics located in the city.
The event was attended by over 130 members of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA); of them, 72 protesters, including four women, were detained by policemen, said Gadji Akif Geidarov, the spokesman of the party.
According to his story, most likely, the chairman of the IPA and others, whose cases have been sent to court, will be fined. He also said that party activists believe that their action has taken place.
"Despite the fact that all the access roads around the embassy were cordoned off by policemen, and the motor traffic in the streets adjacent to the diplomatic mission was restricted, we managed to reach the embassy. We expressed our protest and believe that our action took place," said Geidarov, adding that "it was a protest with a demand to liberate the occupied Muslim territories; it is a protest against the aggression on the Islam," the "Interfax" reports.
