Yerevan hunger-strikers hospitalized
Arutyun Arutyunyan and Ayk Parikyan stopped their hunger strike against the increase of the electricity tariff in Armenia; both activists were taken to hospital.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that massive protests against the decision to increase the electricity tariff continue in Armenia since June 19. On July 30, Arutyun Arutyunyan and Ayk Parikyan, who had been among protesters in Bagramyan Avenue, went on hunger strike. Today, their health status has worsened; and an ambulance was called to them.
According to David Sanasaryan, a member of the coordinating group of protesters, the health condition of Arutyunyan and Parikyan continued deteriorating; and, in the end, they agreed to stop their hunger strike. To restore the health, both will stay in hospital for some time.
One of the hunger-strikers had severe pain in the abdomen, and the other complained of weakness, said one of the sit-in strikers in Bagramyan Avenue.
Let us remind you that on June 27, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan said that the company "Electric Grids of Armenia" will be audited; and till the end of the audit the entire burden of the increased tariff will be born by the government. However, the protesters insist on a complete cancellation of the decision to increase the tariff.
