On June 22-28, at least 11 people fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
During the week from June 22 to June 28, 2015, at least 11 people suffered from the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus: nine of them were killed and two others – wounded. These are the results of calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes eight alleged members of the armed underground – four in Dagestan, and two – in Chechnya and Ingushetia each, and one law enforcer in Dagestan.
Attacks on law enforcers
At night on June 22, in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan, power agents stopped a VAZ car for inspection, with two suspected members of an illegal armed formation (IAF) inside. According to law enforcers, they opened fire from inside the car, and were killed by response fire.
The alleged militants were identified as Zagidgadji Ismailov, a resident of the village of Verkhneye Inkhelo, Akhvakh District of Dagestan, and Yusup Atabaev, a native of the Gudermes District of Chechnya. Law enforcement bodies believe that they joined the "Khasavyurt" militant grouping in June this year.
On June 26, policemen found armed men in a household located in Krenkel Street of the Staropromyslovskiy District of Grozny. Law enforcers asked them to surrender, but the armed men opened fire and wounded two employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). The suspected militants were killed by response fire.
An improvised explosive device (IED) was found in the place of the special operation. The casualties, who were on the federal wanted list, were identified as Mansur Usmanov, a resident of the village of Alkhan-Kala in the Grozny District, and Bislan Baidulaev, a resident of the settlement of Orekhovo in the Achkhoi-Martan District. According to investigators, in 2013 they joined militants and were involved in a number of attacks on law enforcers.
Special and counterterrorist operations
On June 23, at 3:00 a.m. Moscow time, the Buynaksk and Untsukul Districts of Dagestan was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime. A shootout broke out near the village of Gimry of the Untsukul District, during which two suspected militants, who opened, according to power agents, fire on employees of federal forces. A contractor serviceman of Interior Troops of Russia was mortally wounded.
At 4:00 a.m., in the outskirt of Gimry, in the locality named Gindukal, a large-scale battle with the use of heavy equipment and aircrafts burst out, as reported by residents of the Untsukul District of Dagestan. In connection with the special operation, the Gimry Tunnel was closed. According to locals, at about 1:40 p.m. Moscow time, additional military equipment was sent to Gimry.
On June 24, at 11:30 a.m., the CTO regime in the Untsukul and Buynaksk Districts of Dagestan was cancelled; and the motor traffic through the Gimry Tunnel was completely resumed.
According to power agents, the persons killed near the village of Gimry were identified as militants Abdurakhman Abdurakhmanov and Ramazan Kamilbegov.
On June 25, starting from 4:50 a.m. Moscow time, the CTO regime was introduced within four streets – Bakinskaya, Tutaev, Didigov and Esmurziev – in the Nasyr-Kort District of the city of Nazran in Ingushetia. During the special operation, power agents killed a man and a woman, who rendered armed resistance. The casualties were identified as Ali Aliev, a resident of the Nasyr-Kort District of Nazran, and his wife Leyla Alieva. According to preliminary data, they were recruiting young people from Northern Caucasus to the war in Syria.
Detentions
On June 24, in Chechnya, power agents detained 13 suspects of having links with members of illegal armed formations (IAFs). Seven of them were detained in the Nadterechny District of Chechnya, three – in the Gudermes, one in the Urus-Martan, and two – in the Shatoi Districts. All the detainees are males aged 20-40. The police assume that two of them a few years ago were members of the IAFs acting in the territory of the republic; and others were IAF helpers – they supplied foodstuffs, uniforms and medicines, transported militants in their cars and provide them with housing.
On June 28, policemen detained – in Grozny and dwelling settlements of Achkhoi-Martan and Davydenko – four residents of Chechnya, suspected of helping Bislan Baidulaev, who was killed in Grozny on June 26. According to the MIA, starting October 2013 the detainees handed him money, foodstuffs, etc.
