Georgia detains suspected recruiters of IS

In Georgia, five persons have been detained in the course of the special operation carried out in the Pankisi Gorge. The Georgian authorities believe the detainees are recruiters of the "Islamic State" (IS).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 14, local residents reported that the police conducted in the Pankisi Gorge the special operation to search for militants, who came from Syria. As a result of the special operation, the police detained five persons related to transportation of local residents to Syria, the "Georgia Online" reports. Besides, in Tbilisi and the Telavi District, the police detain persons suspected of connections with the "IS".

According to the unofficial information, one of the detainees is a cousin of Tarkhan Batirashvili, one of the IS leaders. Besides, the name of Gaioz Borchashvili is also mentioned among the detainees. On Monday, residents of the Pankisi Gorge intend to hold a protest action with the demand to release the detainees, the "Interfax" reports with reference to the "Rustavi-2" TV Channel.
