Zaur Dadaev appeals against investigators' refusal to open case of torture

Zaur Dadaev, the main defendant in the case of the Boris Nemtsov's murder, has filed an appeal against the investigators' refusal to institute a criminal case on unlawful acts used against him. This was reported by advocate Shamsudin Tsakaev.

Boris Nemtsov was killed in Moscow on February 27. Five persons, including Zaur Dadaev, Anzor and Shagid Gubashev, Khamzat Bakhaev and Tamerlan Eskerkhanov, were detained on suspicion of involvement in the murder and put under arrest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 1, Zaur Dadaev retracted his initial confession and claimed that he had given it to the investigators under pressure. The "Kommersant" reported that the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) had refused to institute a criminal case and thus recognized the primary testimony given by Zaur Dadaev as legitimate.

Today, the defender of Zaur Dadaev has reported that the ICRF's refusal to institute criminal proceedings has been challenged. "The ICRF has examined the complaint filed by Zaur Dadaev about his torture and refused to initiate a criminal case on the complaint. Zaur Dadaev has filed an appeal against the ICRF's refusal to the Basmanny Court of Moscow," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Shamsudin Tsakaev as saying. Meanwhile, the advocate has noted that in the appeal, his client asks to recognize the refusal to institute a criminal case of torture as illegitimate, cancel it, and oblige the investigating authorities to initiate criminal proceedings.
