Film "Family" not to change human rights situation in Chechnya
The effect of the documentary filmed by the "Open Russia" about the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov is too weak to contribute to the investigation of the crimes mentioned by the authors, said Igor Kalyapin, the head of the movement "Committee against Torture".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the 26-minute documentary dealing with the place of the head of Chechnya within the Russian system of power, with kidnappings and acts of torture in Chechnya, the work of local power agents, was posted on the video portal YouTube on May 25. By 10 p.m. Moscow time on May 26, the film was watched for 501,600 times.
The film "Family" brings to the widest possible audience the previously published details of human rights violations in Chechnya. "All the facts presented there are no discovery; they had been known for long, repeatedly published, including by the "Caucasian Knot". All people, who are interested in Chechnya in this way or other, know about it: law enforcers and the political leadership. Should the authorities have wanted to investigate something, they would have done it. The only merit of the film is that it has been posted on the YouTube for the public at large," Igor Kalyapin told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent in his comment.
The only response that can be expected after the release of the film – new repressions against the "Open Russia", the rights defender has added.
