Ashot Gulyan re-elected speaker of NKR's National Assembly

Today, at the first meeting of the National Assembly of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) of the sixth convocation, Ashot Gulyan has been elected the Chairman of the National Assembly by majority of votes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 3, the NKR held the voting at the parliamentary elections. On May 4, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the preliminary results, according to which five parties, including "Free Homeland", "Democratic Party of Artsakh", "Dashnaktsutyun", "Movement 88", and "National Renaissance", gained places at the parliament. Half of the party seats at the parliament of the NKR went to the "Free Homeland" Party.

Ashot Gulyan, who chaired the parliament of the fifth convocation, was nominated for the post by the "Free Homeland" Party. No other candidates were nominated. During the secret voting, 28 MPs supported Ashot Gulyan, and five MPs voted against him.

It should be noted that Ashot Gulyan is the Chairman of the "Democratic Party of Artsakh". However, on May 19, the "Democratic Party of Artsakh" and the "Free Homeland" signed a memorandum on deepening their cooperation.

According to the memorandum, the "Democratic Party of Artsakh" and the "Free Homeland" Parties have the firm intention to make joint decisions during the operation of the parliament of the sixth convocation, including the joint formation of the permanent structures of the parliament.

The results of the elections in the NKR have been recognized by all parties, including the Communist Party of Artsakh and the "Peace and Revival" Party, which gained no seats at the parliament. Baku officials declared the illegality of the elections held in the NKR.
