"EcoWatch" claims absence of EIA at construction of Kerch Strait Bridge

The Krasnodar Territory has started the construction of a temporary bridge between the Tuzla Spit and Tuzla Island. These works are carried out under the initial phase of the construction of a bridge between the Krasnodar Territory and Crimea.

The "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch) has confirmed the information about the initiation of works on the construction of the temporary bridge in Kuban. On May 8, the "EcoWatch" activists inspected the Tuzla Cape and the Tuzla Spit.

According to the activists, the construction works are active. The ecologists watched the motion of vehicles and saw stockpiled construction materials, including, in particular, large-diameter pipes. Besides, the ecologists have also recorded the expansion of the dam: the builders are filling up the sea area on both sides of the Tuzla Spit, both from the side of the Taman Bay and from the side of the Black Sea. At the very tip of the Tuzla Spit, a pile driver is installed directly in the sea area. This was reported by the press release published on the website of the "EcoWatch".

Meanwhile, according to the authors of the press release, the project documentation for the construction of vehicle passage through the Kerch Strait has failed to undergo the necessary environmental impact evaluation (EIA) for the initiation of construction. "The project documentation for the construction of vehicle passage through the Kerch Strait has not undergone the EIA," the authors of the press release particularly emphasize.

Till present, no comments from the contractors on the ecologists' statement are available.
