Opposition activist Tofig Yagublu returned to penal colony in Azerbaijan

Today, Tofig Yagublu, the Deputy Chairman of the opposition "Musavat" Party of Azerbaijan, temporary released to attend the funeral of his daughter, has returned to the penal colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that, according to the "Musavat" Party, on April 23, 26-year-old Nargiz Yagublu died in the Russian city of Tomsk, where she lived together with her spouse. On April 24, Tofig Yagublu was released from the penal colony for seven days to attend the funeral of his daughter.

Today, staff members of the Penitentiary Service have taken Tofig Yagublu back to the penal colony No. 13, where he is serving his sentence. This was reported by Nemat Kerimli, an advocate of Tofig Yagublu.

"Unfortunately, despite the expectations and hopes, the decision to release Tofig Yagublu from his service of further punishment was not made. His family members found themselves in a difficult situation: they suffered a grievous loss. At such times, it is very important for the head of the family to be together with the family members. Human rights defenders appealed to the leaders of the country for pardon; however, unfortunately, Tofig Yagublu was not pardoned," Nemat Kerimli told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
