Chechen resident Sultan Daurbekov confesses of killing his daughter
In Chechnya, Sultan Daurbekov, a defendant in the case of "honour killing", has told the court that he had killed his daughter in the heat of passion. When justifying the crime, one of the witnesses referred to the statements of Ramzan Kadyrov, the HRC "Memorial" reports.
During the court session, the Staropromyslovskiy District Court has questioned neighbours of the Daurbekov family. "The first witness spoke about Zarema's life before marriage. According to the neighbour, before marriage, Zarema Daurbekova had an affair with a man. A cousin of her father made the man to marry Zarema, and they have been married for ten years," the HRC "Memorial" reports in its press release.
According to the witness, Zarema Daurbekova left her husband after her uncle's death and again behaved "improperly". The father of the young woman tried to persuade her; however, she refused to listen to anyone, the HRC "Memorial" reports.
The second neighbour said that the Zarema's father "avoided communication with the people because of his daughter, since he heard accusations in his address".
The witness said he saw Zarema brought to the house in a car of unidentified men. Meanwhile, when justifying the murder, the witness referred to the statements of Ramzan Kadyrov.
When commenting on a series of murders of women in 2008, Ramzan Kadyrov said that all the victims of extrajudicial killings were women of easy virtue, and they were punished by their relatives for immoral behaviour in accordance with Islamic law and national traditions. At the same time, Ramzan Kadyrov has stressed that "the actions of the murderers cannot be justified by any tradition."
The next court hearing in the case is scheduled for April 16.
