Georgian resident detained at border with South Ossetia
Russian border guards, stationed in South Ossetia, have detained a Georgian citizen Vasily Kobakhidze in the pre-border territory.
Kobakhidze was detained near the village of Dvani of the Kareli Municipality.
According to the Georgian MIA, the EU Observer Mission in Georgia was informed about Kobakhidze's detention. Negotiations are underway about his release, the "Georgia-Online" reports.
Kobakhidze is not for the first time detained in the pre-border territory; therefore, his relatives fear that border guards may refuse to release him, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has informed earlier about detentions of other citizens of Georgia in the pre-border territory. Thus, on December 20, 2014, Vasily Khidasheli, a 19-year-old resident of the village of Tsitelubani of the Gori District of Georgia, was detained at the border with South Ossetia on suspicion of illegally crossing the border. Later, he was released.
