In Dagestani village of Shushiya, seven protesters still on hunger strike

In the village of Shushiya of the Novolak District of Dagestan, seven women continue their hunger strike with the demand to allocate land shares. Three other protesters have stopped their hunger strike because of deterioration of their health.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 10, in Shushiya, protesters resumed their hunger strike demanding to return in the form of shares 9 hectares of land leased out by Agricultural Production Cooperative (APC) "Almaz". The current protest action takes place in an uninhabited and unheated house on the outskirts of the village, and it initially involved 15 persons. On February 26, the Supreme Court of Dagestan is to consider the appeal filed by the village administration, demanding to recognize the lease of land invalid.

Earlier, the hunger-strikers have stated that they would like Amuchi Amutinov, the head of the "Lak National Council", to represent their interests during the negotiations with the district authorities, since the protesters treat Amuchi Amutinov as their leader and trust him more than other politicians.

According to Amuchi Amutinov, he does not intend to participate in the negotiations with district leader Gadji Aidiev; however, he is ready to defend the interests of the Shushiya residents.

Earlier, district leader Gadji Aidiev has called the protest action in the village of Shushiya senseless and illogical. According to the politician, the problems of immigrants are gradually being resolved.
