GPO qualifies beating of "Pre-Parliament" supporters in NKR as hooliganism

The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) has opened a criminal investigation into the beating of supporters of the "Pre-Parliament" in the Kashatag District of the NKR, having qualified the crime as hooliganism.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 31, the supporters of the "Pre-Parliament", who took part in the motor rally, were attacked in the NKR. At least six persons suffered, including Zhirayr Sefilyan, a Karabakh War veteran. According to oppositionists, policemen were involved in the attack. In the opinion of the police, the incident was provoked by activists themselves.

Meanwhile, on February 6, a delegation of the National Assembly of Armenia came to the NKR with the aim to study the circumstances of the dispersal by the police of the "Pre-Parliament" motor rally on the border of the NKR with Armenia.

The MPs have concluded that "the incident with the motor rally must be resolved within the law," said the press service of the National Assembly of the NKR.

The Public Council for Foreign Policy and Security of the NKR and the non-parliamentary parties have condemned the crackdown of the motor rally, stating that such incidents spoil the NKR's international image.
