In the period from January 1 to December 31, 2014, in total, 525 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), including 341 killed and 184 wounded persons. In comparison with 2013, the total number of victims went down by 46.9%. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

In 2014, Chechnya had 117 victims of the armed conflict, including 52 casualties and 65 wounded persons. This is by 15.8% more than in 2013, when the republic had 39 lost and at least 62 wounded persons. In 2014, Chechnya was the only region in Northern Caucasus, which showed a growth of the count of victims as compared with 2013.

Last year, Dagestan, which is the NCFD leader by the total number of victims, had at least 293 of them, including 208 killed and 85 wounded ones, which marked a decrease by 54.3% against 2013.

The statistics presented here does not reflect with the absolute certainty the real number of victims. Not all the data gets into news reports; and it is not always possible to check the truthfulness of law enforcers' statements.

In 2014, Kabardino-Balkaria had 66 victims of the armed conflict, including 49 killed and 17 wounded persons, which marked a drop by 46.3% as compared with the previous year.

In 2014, Ingushetia had at least 37 victims, of whom 21 were killed and 16 others were wounded. This means a reduction by 60.6% as compared with 2013.

In the Stavropol Territory, last year, 11 people suffered during the armed conflict – 10 of them were killed and one wounded. As compared with 2013, the region saw a decrease by 35.3%.

In North Ossetia, one civilian perished in 2014, while in 2013 the republic lost at least three people, which means a reduction in the count of victims by 66.7%.

Karachay-Cherkessia was the only NCFD region, which had no victims of armed conflict in 2014. In 2013, there were five killed and two wounded persons there.
