KChR's SC grants release of Arthur Ismailov
The Supreme Court (SC) of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic has satisfied the petition on exemption of Arthur Ismailov, convicted on charges of aiding and abetting terrorism, from punishment. The petition was moved to the SC by the administration of the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of the city of Cherkessk in connection with the extremely grave health condition of the convict.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 19, the SC of the KChR sentenced 13 defendants in the case of preparation for violent seizure of power to prison terms ranging from 6 years and 10 months to 12 years. Artur Ismailov was sentenced to 10 years in a high security colony.
"The session of the SC took place at the request of Ismailov and presentation of SIZO bosses on his release from punishment due to illness," said the lawyer Makhmud Gadjiev.
The session examined medical documents and conclusions of the expert commission.
Artur Ismailov is in extremely grave condition, said his wife Asya Ismailova. She expressed hope that there would be no attempts to appeal against the SC's decision.
