Another episode added to case against Stavropol rights defender Bogatenkova

Lyudmila Bogatenkova, the Chair of the Stavropol Committee of the NGO "Mothers from Kuma River Area", is suspected of fraud when obtaining a loan of 100,000 roubles from an individual. According to the Prosecutor's Office of the Stavropol Territory, this is the second episode of the criminal case earlier initiated against the rights defender.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 17, the 73-year-old Lyudmila Bogatenkova was detained in Budyonnovsk after a search carried out in the office of her NGO. The woman was charged with a large-scale fraud (Part 3, Article 159, of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In the evening on October 18, Lyudmila Bogatenkova was transported to the Pyatigorsk SIZO (pre-trial prison) "White Swan". On October 20, it became known that Lyudmila Bogatenkova returned home and signed recognizance not to leave. On October 21, she was hospitalized to the cardiology ward of the Budyonnovsk hospital; and on November 4, she returned home.

According to investigators, in late November 2012, a citizen H. gave a loan of 100,000 roubles to Lyudmila Bogatenkova under their oral agreement with maturity on December 10, 2012. However, after the above date, Lyudmila Bogatenkova began to refuse her obligations by denying the fact of the loan. This was reported by the website of the Prosecutor's Office of the Stavropol Territory on November 27.

In that regard, investigators initiated a criminal case on fraud inflicting significant damage to a citizen (Part 2 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Then, it has been combined with the criminal case earlier initiated against Lyudmila Bogatenkova, the Prosecutor's Office of the Stavropol Territory reports.

Let us remind you that in recent months, Lyudmila Bogatenkova was engaged in investigating the circumstances of the deaths of Russian soldiers in hostilities in Ukraine in July-August 2014. In August, she passed to the Presidential Council for Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights (HRC) the information on nine Russian soldiers declared perished in the Rostov Region.
