ICRF: baby dies in Astrakhan Region because doctor failed to come

According to the Investigating Department (ID) for the Astrakhan Region of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), a baby died in the village of Fyodorovka, Enotaevka District of the Region, after the district doctor failed to come to the young patient, referring to being too busy, and refused to sanction an urgent hospitalization of the baby.

Late in the evening on March 15, 2014, parents called the doctor to help their one-month-old son, who had high temperature.

"The doctor ignored the call, referring to overload with work, and sent a female paramedic (feldsher), who revealed signs of acute viral disease in the baby and immediately reported this to the doctor, demanding urgent hospitalization of the baby," the website of the above ID of the ICRF reported on April 2.

Despite the information received from the feldsher, the doctor decided to wait until morning, citing a lack of free beds at the Enotaevka Central District Hospital; however, as investigators assert, the doctor did not even ask about the availability of vacant beds.

By the morning of March 16, the baby died. Investigators now check the circumstances in order to assess the medics' actions.
