Chechen resident acquitted by jury disappears after new detention, relatives assert
In Chechnya, relatives of Alvi Abdurakhmanov report his disappearance after detention by law enforcers.
Let us remind you that earlier the jury acquitted him on charges of robbery and attack on power officials. However, the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov stated the illegality of the acquittal. Thereafter, at the insistence of his relatives, Alvi came to the Office of Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Chechnya, where he was detained.
Now, his relatives complain that they cannot meet Abdurakhmanov since March 12; therefore, they turned for help to the staff of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", who have contracted a lawyer who is engaged in searching the detainee.
The message of the HRC "Memorial", received today by the "Caucasian Knot", says that human rights defenders have learnt two jurors from the jury that examined the allegation against Alvi Abdurakhmanov, wrote applications to the investigating authorities that "some unidentified person" demanded from them to acquit the detainees, "otherwise threatening to inflict harm to their health," A criminal case was opened based on these applications.
