Crimea's incorporation by Russia will have no effect on NKR's recognition, political analysts assert

The events around the Crimea will not affect the Karabakh issue, since the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) has more than 20 years ago enjoyed its right to self-determination and created its own state, while in the Crimea Russia is solving its geopolitical problems. This is the opinion of policy-makers and experts in the NKR.

"Their commitment to building an independent state was expressed by NKR citizens for more than ten times, both at the referendum on independence (in 1991) and adoption of the Constitution (in 2006), and at the republic's elections, voting for programmes to strengthen the Artsakh (Artsakh is the self-name of Nagorno-Karabakh, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") statehood," Masis Mailyan, a political analyst and the Chairman of the Public Council for Foreign Policy and Security of the NKR, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Judging by people's moods, our only possible option for the future is a merge with the Republic of Armenia," the expert has added.

Let us remind you that the authorities of Armenia and NKR have recognized the outcomes of the Crimean referendum.

The option of Azerbaijan's sanctions against Russia looks fantastic, said Ike Khanumyan, an expert on international relations and the chairman of the "National Revival" Party. According to his version, the accession of the Crimea to Russia cannot affect the relations between the two countries, since the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue "is in the hands of Karabakh itself."
