Experts mention inter-clan fighting, militants' revenge and "Chechen trace" as versions of attempt on Khasavyurt Mayor

When considering the issue who might order to assassinate Saigidpasha Umakhanov, Mayor of the Dagestani city of Khasavyurt, experts identify several versions, including those related to inter-clan fighting in Dagestan, militants' revenge and struggle for power in the city, where a large number of Chechens live.

Let us remind you that about a week ago, two residents of Chechnya were detained in Khasavyurt. They are suspected of plotting the assassination of City Mayor Saigidpasha Umakhanov.

Milrad Fatulaev, the editor-in-chief of the Dagestani newspaper "Nastoyaschee Vremya" (Real Time), tends to the version of the inter-clan fighting in the territory of the district.

"In September 2009, Alimsoltan Alkhamatov, the head of the Khasavyurt District, was killed. Investigators accused Khabib Umakhanov, a nephew of the Khasavyurt Mayor, of committing the crime. There were contradictions between those families, and the contradictions have not yet been exhausted," Milrad Fatulaev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to him, the observers put forward one more version associated with the extremist underground.

"Some observers also consider the version of the 'Chechen trace' associated with the struggle for power in the city. However, it seems unlikely to me," Milrad Fatulaev believes.

Professor Abdulnasir Dibirov, Director of the Institute of Economics and Politics, Doctor of Political Sciences, considers the "forest" version as the most probable. Meanwhile, he has noted that "forest people" can be used by someone else.
