Khasavyurt Mayor claims being unaware of impending attempt on his life

In the Dagestani city of Khasavyurt, two residents of Chechnya have been detained, who are suspected of plotting the attempt on Saigidpasha Umakhanov, City Mayor. This was reported by the "Izvestia" with reference to anonymous source in the law enforcement agencies.

Djabrailov and Kachaev were detained in Groznenskaya Street in Khasavyurt. Law enforcers found with them a nine-millimetre VSK-94 sniper rifle with sawed number plates and 26 cartridges to it and 100,000 roubles, the "Izvestia" reports.

Meanwhile, the Mayor himself has said in his interview to the "Caucasian Knot" that he knows nothing about the attempt on him and about the progress of the investigation. However, according to Saigidpasha Umakhanov, this is not the first attempt on his life. "In 2012, an explosion occurred on the road, when I returned from work. Three months ago, I was followed by a sniper. That guy was killed in a special operation, and he was one of the 'forest' militants," Saigidpasha Umakhanov said.

According to his story, the attempts are of ordered nature.

"In the woods and not only in the woods, there are people dissatisfied with my activities. They have ordered to kill me long time ago, since I am the head of the antiterrorist commission and my work is to return to civilian life the young people who took the path of delusion," Saigidpasha Umakhanov has stated.
