Sheikh-Akhmed Baisuev killed in Dagestan was known to power agents as "Amir of Gudermes"

A native of Chechen Sheikh-Akhmed Baisuev, who was killed in Dagestan on February 11, was known to power agents as "Amir" of the city of Gudermes, said a law enforcement source. Earlier, his family earlier was subjected to pressure from power agents, human rights defenders assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Baisuev was killed in a special operation near the village of Khutor, the Khasavyurt District. According to law enforcers, he was put on the federal wanted list in 2005 as a suspect of blowing up stores, extortions, and killing an FSB agent on December 9, 2013, in Khasavyurt.

"For some time he was a tank-and-file member of bandit formations; then, he became a group commander; in recent years he was in Dagestan, where he joined one of the gangs operating there," a law enforcement source from Chechnya told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Chechen human rights defenders, in summer of 2009 local power agents burned down the house of Sheikh-Akhmed Baisuev's parents located in Engel-Yurt. Besides, on the same day two other groups of power agents broke into the homes of Baisuev's two married sisters, where they made pogroms and searches.

According to Ramzan, an activist of a local NGO, at that time in Chechnya, the practice of burning down houses of relatives of IAF members, as well as of illegal detentions, beatings and harassments of militants' relatives was very widespread.
