Serenko: in Volgograd Region terrorists make use of power agents' drawbacks

Terror act organizers are successful in the Volgograd Region because of the weakness of local power agents, who are unable to prevent suicide attacks, said Andrei Serenko, the coordinator of the "Club of Experts of Volgograd". In order to prevent terror acts, it is necessary to consolidate the society, said political scientist Ruslan Kurbanov.

Let us remind you that 33 people in total, including suicide bombers, were lost in two terror acts committed in Volgograd on December 29 and 30 – at the city railway station and in a trolleybus.

In the opinion of the political scientist Ruslan Kurbanov, a senior researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the series of terror acts in Volgograd may have to do with the Russia's position in the international arena.

"Most likely, it may be associated with the recently toughened Russia's attitude to Syria and Ukraine (in 2013, a military strike of the West on Syria was averted through Russia's assistance; while the Ukraine's Govt announced a halt to the process of European integration – note of the "Caucasian Knot")," Ruslan Kurbanov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the political analyst, the split in the society, where the helix of Caucasophobia and Islamophobia is spinning up, is a proper chance to implement "a rather tough scenario for Russia."

Volgograd law enforcers do not understand the logic of terrorists; therefore, they have to investigate already committed crimes, rather than trying to prevent new ones, said Andrei Serenko.

A retired FSB colonel, who had worked for a long time in one of the republics of Northern Caucasus, said, on the condition of anonymity, that In many regions of the Russian Federation many qualified professionals have left the ranks of security forces.
