On December 9-15, 2013, 15 people suffered from armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
During the week of December 9-15, 2013, at least 15 people fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus; of them, nine people were lost and six more were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes four employees of power agencies – two in Dagestan and two in Kabardino-Balkaria, one civilian in Dagestan and four persons suspected of involvement in illegal armed formations (IAFs) – two in Dagestan and two in Kabardino-Balkaria.
Attacks on law enforcers
On December 9, in Groznenskaya Street of Khasavyurt, unidentified criminals opened fire from a submachine gun and a pistol at a Lada Priora car with Arslan Suleimanov, Senior Lieutenant of the local division of the Dagestani Department of the Russian FSB (federal Security Bureau), inside. He died on the spot from received wounds.
On December 10, at the intersection of Sovietskaya and Pionerskaya Streets in the city of Chegem (Kabardino-Balkaria), at least two unidentified persons attacked employees of the local department of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (known as UFSIN). They approached the car with two UFSIN employees and a policeman of the Kabardino-Balkaria Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) inside, and opened automatic fire. As a result, Zafir Lokiyaev and Spartak Appaev, employees of Penitentiary Colony No. 3, were killed; and the wounded policeman was hospitalized. The attackers fled in a car that was waiting for them.
On December 12, in the village of Tlibisho, Akhvakh District of Dagestan, an armed clash burst out of power agents with suspected militants. After two local residents asked the strangers who they were, the latter, who turned to be militants, took the villagers as hostages. A group of armed people with hostages was found in the rural settlements named Selsovet Tadmagitlinsky. Policemen began chasing them; and in the outskirt of the village of Tlibisho a skirmish occurred, in which one policeman was killed another one was wounded; among the suspects, one was wounded, but he managed to escape. The hostages also managed to escape. At midnight of December 13 the district was put under the counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime.
Attacks on civilians
On December 14, in the Khasavyurt District, two unidentified persons entered the yard of a local resident born in 1950 and fired several shots at him. The victim died in place from his gunshot wounds. The attackers fled in a black VAZ-21730 car without state number plates.
