Georgia initials Association Agreement with European Union

At the summit of the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius, Georgia has initialled its Association Agreement with the European Union.

The Agreement with the EU was signed by David Zalkaliani and Mikhail Djanelidze, Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs and of Economy of Georgia accordingly, the "Tbilisi Week" reports.

"This is not an agreement on Georgia's accession to the EU, but with this Agreement, the process of European integration becomes irreversible. We are moving to a very crucial stage of integration with the EU," The "Interfax" quotes Mr Zalkaliani as saying.

It is planned that on November 29 the document, consisting of about a thousand pages, will be signed by the Georgian Foreign Minister Maya Panjikidze and the EU Commissioner Catherine Ashton.

According to the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, the final signing of the Association Agreement will take place in 2014.
