Stavropol: lawyers consult pupils on World Children's Day
On November 20, on the World Children's Day, the city of Stavropol held its first Day of Legal Aid to Children, during which consultations to young people were granted by lawyers and notaries.
According to the Territorial Ministry of Education, on that day it was planned to undertake educational and consulting activities in all the educational institutions of the territory. Free legal advice on the rights of children, legal aspects of guardianship and parent-child relations were also granted at basic consultancy centres with the participation of lawyers and notaries.
At the Stavropol Orphanage No. 9, which was visited by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, about 20 pupils addressed for help with questions about their rights in education, medical care and housing.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by edge Zoya Levchenko, the head of the division of social support for families and children of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Stavropol Territory, the work to assist children with disabilities and children at social risk is conducted on the permanent basis. As of July 1, 2013, the Stavropol Territory has 9192 disabled children, and, as of October 1, 4743 children at social risk.
Another category of children in need of special attention includes orphans. According to the Territorial Ministry of Education, as of November 1, 2013, the Territory has 9793 orphans and children left without parental care.
