During week of October 21-27, 2013, 18 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of October 21-27, 2013, at least 18 persons suffered in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 11 persons were killed, and 7 persons were wounded. These are the results of calculations made by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The death toll includes three law enforcers: one in Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria, and Ingushetia, three civilians in Ingushetia, North Ossetia, and Dagestan, five suspected members of the armed underground, including two in Dagestan, two in Ingushetia, and one in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Attacks on law enforcers

On October 21, in Baksan (Kabardino-Balkaria), FSB Department agents were shelled from a car that drove up to them. As a result, one FSB Department agent was killed, and another one was wounded and brought to hospital.

On October 24, in the village of Zayukovo of the Baksan District of Kabardino-Balkaria, two unidentified men with automatic weapons shelled a house of a policeman. The attackers and arrived police squad started a fire fight. One of the attackers was killed. During the shooting, three policemen were wounded.

On October 25, in a street in Khasavyurt, near a check point of the road-patrol service (known as DPS), inspectors tried to stop a car; however, people in the car opened fire on them, and one of the policemen was wounded. Two militants were killed by return fire. In the car, law enforcers found explosives two 50-litre containers of explosive substances and means to activate an improvised explosive device (IED). The bomb capacity was 100 kg of TNT equivalent.

On October 26, in the centre of Nazran, a fire fight occurred. At about 12:30 Moscow time, two local residents in masks with automatic weapons attacked a policeman. During the fight, two of the attackers were killed, the policeman was not wounded. A local woman, who accidentally was at the place, got fatal wound to her head.

Explosions and terror acts

On October 15, in the area of rural settlement of Arshty of the Sunzha District of Ingushetia, during special combat missions, Alexei Vetyugov, a military man from the military unit No. 6775, blew up on an unidentified explosive device. He was brought to hospital, where he later died from his wounds.

In the morning of October 22, in the mountain and forest area near the village of Yandi of the Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya, two military men of the federal forces were wounded in a landmine explosion. Both military men were hospitalized with shrapnel wounds, and doctors assessed the state of one of them as serious.

On October 22, in Khasavyurt, on Makhachkala highway, local residents found a suspicious object. Experts revealed that the object was an improvised explosive device with capacity of 12 kg of TNT equivalent. Combat engineers from the Russian FSB Department for Dagestan defused the bomb with the help of hydrodynamic gun.

On October 24, on the highway Khasavyurt-Babayurt in Dagestan, an improvised explosive device detonated on the way of the military convoy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). No one suffered in the explosion. The bomb capacity was 200 grams of TNT equivalent.

On October 24, inMakhachkala, a Hyundai Sonata car was blown up. As a result of the explosion, Ramazan Ramazanov, a staff member of the Investigating Department of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) for the Lenin District of the capital of Dagestan, was wounded. Later, he died in hospital.

On October 24, inImam Shamil Avenue in Makhachkala, an improvised explosive device detonated. No one suffered in the explosion.

Attacks on civilians

On October 23, inBatyr Murzaev Street in Khasavyurt, unidentified persons shelled from automatic weapons the car of Saidakhmat Sataev, Chief of the Municipal Department for Taxes and Duties of the Tax Service. The official was killed in the place. The priority version of the murder is connected with the Saidakhmat Sataev's official activities.

On October 23, inArdon Street in Vladikavkaz, Oleg Oziev, Deputy Prosecutor of the Promyshlenny District was shot dead near his house by unidentified persons.
