Delegates from over 30 Russian regions come to Dagestan to Congress of Peoples of Russia

On October 18, Makhachkala hosted the Congress of Peoples of Russia, which was attended by representatives from more than 30 regions of the Russian Federation. The forum has announced the idea to create the Ministry for Nationalities and proposed legislative initiatives in the area of national policy.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Congress of Peoples of Russia devoted to the issues of national policy and ethno-religious cooperation was attended by delegations from the North-Caucasian regions and other subjects of the Russian Federation. The forum was held at the Dagestani House of Friendship with the motto "Common Destiny, United Russia, United People."

At the Congress, Ramazan Abdulatipov, the leader of Dagestan, has stated that the republic revives ethno-cultural traditions and values; however, "absolutization of ethnic values has become a breeding ground for ethnic nationalism and chauvinism."

The speech delivered at the Congress by Dukuvakha Abdurakhmanov, Chairman of the Parliament of the Chechen Republic, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Assembly of Peoples of Russia, made a great resonance. In particular, he has voiced the need to create the Federal Ministry for Nationalities.

According Dukuvakha Abdurakhmanov, Mr Kolokoltchev, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, and Sergey Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, "will make national policy."

As a result, the Congress has adopted the declaration "On historical fate and co-creation of peoples of Russia".
