Yerevan hosts rally in support of reconstruction of Market Hall

In Yerevan, the action organized by supporters of reconstruction the Market Hall was attended by about 100 persons. Opponents of the reconstruction state they will continue their protest actions.

The Market Hall is one of the most famous works of architect Grigor Agababyan, and it is included in the list of monuments of history and culture of Armenia. NGO activists protest against the reconstruction of the building, since they believe it would lead to the destruction of the monument. On October 7, a part of the Market Hall was open; however, the opponents of the reconstruction continue their protest actions. At the same time, employees of the market and traders say they support the extending reconstruction.

On October 16, about 100 persons in red berets gathered in front of the market building and chanted: "Market Hall!"

"In future, talking about the Market Hall, we will not remember the illegal protest actions, and we will see a new look of Yerevan," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by one of the participants of the action.

The action has ended without incidents.
