Socially disadvantaged residents of Tbilisi go on hunger strike

Socially disadvantaged residents of Tbilisi, who live in a former building of railway hospital, have started a hunger strike, demanding to solve their housing problems.

The protest action began on September 29. On September 30, the media reported on the hunger strike.

Hunger-strikers demanded from the presidential candidates to guarantee preserving of residential building occupied by them or providing them with new housing, the "Georgia-Online" reports.

If the demands of the protestors are not met, the hunger-strikers threaten to block the territory adjacent to the Central Election Commission (CEC) and to hinder the election of Georgian President, the "Medianews" reports.

The number of protesters was not reported.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 19, about 20 persons living in the building of the railway hospital held a protest action at the State Chancellery of Georgia. They broke into the building and demanded to legalize their stay at the hospital building or to provide them with other housing in Tbilisi.
