Pedestrian bridge over Sochi River commissioned five months behind plan

The Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Volgomost" has commissioned the pedestrian bridge across the Sochi River, which is on the list of Olympic facilities, with a delay of five months. The opening and commissioning of a traffic bridge over the same river is delayed indefinitely, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The pedestrian bridge was opened on August 13. Opinions of Sochi residents and guests of the resort-city on the bridge differ – some of them find it unreliable, since it is located under the multi-ton road bridge, while others called it "wide and comfortable."

The construction of the motor bridge began three years ago, in April 2010. Its completion was scheduled for April 2013.

"Prior to commissioning, we still need to apply the road markings and set up traffic signs," one of the builders told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"It is unlikely that with the markings and signs in place drivers will start operating the bridge, since it's impossible to drive onto the bridge either from the right or from the left bank of the Sochi River. The alternate highway is not ready; and nobody knows when its 3rd phase will be commissioned," said Oleg Ilyin, a resident of Sochi.

"The third section of the alternate highway is planned to be commissioned in December 2013," the spokesman of the DSD "Chernomorye" told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
