Convicts for blowing up "Neva-Express" Train file complaint with the ECtHR

The convicts in the case of the explosion of the "Neva-Express" Train and their relatives have filed a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), alleging torture, violation of rights to the defence and fair trial.

Let us remind you that on May 22, 2012, the Tver Regional Court sentenced four defendants who had been charged with blowing up the "Neva-Express" Train to life-long imprisonment. Six other defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from seven to eight years.

The complaint was filed on July 22 on behalf of all the convicts, Oksana Preobrazhenskaya, the director of the "Centre for International Protection", who is representing the applicants' interests at the ECtHR, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"We are seeking recognition of Russia as violator of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) with regard to the use of torture (Article 3), violation of the right to an effective remedy (Article 13) and the right to a fair and public trial (Article 6)," said Oksana Preobrazhenskaya.

"Earlier, the ECtHR communicated the complaints of Zelimkhan Aushev and Murad Kartoev, in which my clients had declared torture, used to knock out the required testimonies, which later became the basis of the sentence. Now we have complemented these complaints with violations of Articles 6 and 13 of the ECHR," said Oksana Preobrazhenskaya.

So far, no comments of investigators in the context of the above complaint have arrived.
