Members of power ministries are carrying out a special operation searching for gunmen in the South of Chechnya

A special operation on search of leaders of the gunmen is going on in the high mountain Vedeno district of Chechen Republic, a source in power-wielding structures of the republic reported. According to him, law enforcement officers do not rule out that leader of the “Caucasus Emirate” Dokku Umarov might be hiding himself there.

”The operation on search and neutralization of gangsters’ groups in the mountainous area of the republic has practically been going continuously since the end of January when Gakaev brothers’ gang was annihilated in Vedeno district”, a representative of the republican power ministries said to the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

However, the source pointed out that the chance to find Umarov and other leaders of armed underground was rather small.

Residents of Vedeno district say that there are a lot of accidental covers in the mountain-woody area where the special operation is going.

“The gunmen know the mountains pretty well and have most possibly built more than ten bases and equipped more than one cave for their needs”, local resident I. Shahran thinks.
