Trial on lawsuit of HRC "Memorial" challenging prosecutor's demand to get registered as foreign agent reappointed
The consideration by the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow of the lawsuit lodged by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" against the demand of the Moscow Prosecutor's Office (MPO) to the organization to get registered as a foreign agent, has been repeatedly postponed. The next session is scheduled for June 28.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the unscheduled audit of the HRC "Memorial" by the MPO jointly with experts from the Ministry of Justice and Tax Inspectorate began on March 26. On April 30, the HRC "Memorial" received a presentation from the MPO on the outcomes of the audit. The MPO concluded that the HRC had violated the requirements of point "b" of Article 2 of the Federal Law of January 12, 1996, No. 7-FZ "On Non-Profit Organizations" that defines the concept of "a non-profit organization acting as a foreign agent" and demanded that the "Memorial" should get registered as a foreign agent. The HRC found the conclusion invalid and announced its intention to appeal against it. The session scheduled for June 20 was postponed to June 25 due to the illness of the judge.
On June 25, the hearing was again postponed. Now, a preliminary hearing on the lawsuit of the HRC "Memorial" will take place on June 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow, says the release of the HRC that has arrived to the "Caucasian Knot".
